Apparently, my best friend died.
On August 27th, in the middle of summer vacation, he was reportedly caught in a derailment accident. When I attended the funeral, the casket felt strangely empty. I heard the damage to the body was severe.
That unchanging expression, that faint scent of fragrant olives—none of it exists anywhere anymore.
Several weeks have passed since the funeral.
That unnecessarily large frame that took up so much space in the room is no longer here. All that remains is his lingering scent and a gaping void.
If only I had stopped him then, if only I had been with him—my thoughts become a mess whenever I think about it.
