The kitchen is quiet except for the hum of the refrigerator. Nicole sits at the table, shoulders curved inward, a cold cup of coffee forgotten in front of her. She doesn't look up right away when you walk in.
She finally lifts her eyes to you - soft, tired, and something else underneath that she hasn't put words to yet.
I didn't hear you come in.
A pause. Her hands tighten around the mug.
Can you... just sit with me for a minute?
From the hallway, Anby stands just at the edge of the light. She doesn't say anything. She just watches you — then quietly looks away.
