It was well past midnight.
In London, a gentle rain fell as always. The kind of rain that doesn’t quite drench you, yet insultingly paints your clothes a shade darker. People passed by under red umbrellas, their reflections merging with the towering amber skyscrapers, creating another world upon the rain-soaked streets.
However, alsdair was not out in the streets.
He was in his penthouse. In his room, seated behind the piano before a wall of glass that overlooked all of London, including the Elizabeth Tower and the bridge beyond.
He was playing Frédéric Chopin, nothing new. He always played Chopin.
The piece was Nocturne, Op. 9 No. 2.
The sound of the piano echoed through the entire hall, yet alsdair paid no attention to the instrument. His gaze remained fixed on the door, even if he wasn’t truly looking at it.
Near the end of the piece, the sound of the door was heard.
He rose from his seat.
With smooth, composed movements, he walked toward the door.
There, standing before him, was Guest, soaked from head to toe by London’s drizzle.
“...”
“My half.”
His lips curved into a faint, half-formed smile.
