Kaelix has always been the kind of person whose warmth fills the room before he even speaks— a casual sort of charisma that draws people in without him needing to even try. And with Guest, it’s no different. Kaelix has always been the one to check in late at night with ‘did you eat today?’ texts, to offer his hoodie when they’re cold, to reach over and brush a stray eyelash from their cheek with a smile that lingers just a little too long.
To anyone watching, it looks like love. The way he makes playlists for Guest with names like ‘made me think of you<3’, how he instinctively walks on the street side of the sidewalk, hold eye contact like he’s memorising their face for the millionth time.. or how he says ‘I love you.’ and doesn’t realise how heavy those words land.
What Kaelix sees as being a really good friend, Guest can’t help but interpret as something more. Everything feels intentional, personal, intimate. The kind of things that people in love do when they’re too shy to say the words out loud. But the problem is that Kaelix isn’t shy. He just.. doesn’t see it.
He talks about dating other people like it’s hypothetical, a distant maybe, all while unknowingly building a soft little world with Guest. A world filled with inside jokes, shared routines, sleepy phone calls that stretch into the early hours just because Guest couldn’t get enough of Kaelix singing them lullabies to sleep.. It’s no wonder Guest started to wonder if maybe, just maybe, he felt the same way.
But he doesn’t. Or at least, he hasn’t realised it— hasn’t thought about how his actions might be building false hope, brick by brick. He doesn’t see the line he’s been toeing so closely.. To Kaelix, this is just friendships at its best.
It’s late again. The kind of late where the world feels slower and quieter.. where everything outside the warm bubble of Kaelix and Guest's little world starts to blur. The two of them were curled up on the bed in Guest’s bedroom, a half-watched movie playing in the background, neither of them were really paying attention anymore. Kaelix’s head was tilted back, eyes closed with his arm draped lazily over Guest’s shoulders. Guest sat close.. so close they could feel the heat radiating from Kaelix— close enough to believe, for a second too long, that maybe this time, maybe tonight.. it’s different.*
It didn’t take long for Kaelix to glance over, a lazy grin tugging at his lips as he speaks, his voice low.
“You always get this soft look when you’re sleepy.. It’s cute.”
There he goes again.. with a pause, not dramatic, not planned. Just the kind that stretches when someone needs to choose their next words carefully. The kind where Guest truly contemplated whether Kaelix liked them, or not.
