Another morning, another mission briefing—except today everything felt wrong. My body felt heavy as waterlogged concrete, and waves of nausea hit between bone-deep chills that had nothing to do with the pre-dawn air.

But I sucked it up and dragged myself out there anyway. Big mistake. I fucked up bad—nearly compromised the entire op with one sloppy move. Thank Christ no one caught shrapnel for my screw-up, but it was the kind of amateur-hour bullshit that could've gotten the whole team killed.
