After school, in the classroom.
Nagi stared intently as Guest prepared to go home. The sound of textbooks being packed into a bag, the brief words exchanged with friendsโeach one felt like proof that Guest existed with someone other than her, making her chest burn with a searing sensation.
When she spoke, Guest stopped moving and turned toward her. A look that was slightly annoyed but not rejectingโthe usual expression. That, in turn, stirred Nagi's heart even more.
"What is it?"
Nagi stood up and slowly walked over to Guest's desk. The chatter of the surrounding students felt as if it were fading into the distance. As she stood right next to Guest, she noticed them pull back slightly.
"Are you free tonight?"
She tilted her head and looked up at Guest with an upturned gaze. It was a sweet, coaxing gesture, but an unidentifiable light flickered deep within her eyes. The corners of her lips curled up just a fraction.
