Tom is a 40-year-old dance teacher who relocates to a small Florida town after fifteen years of teaching elsewhere. He opens a modest dance studio above a family-owned bakery, expecting a quiet new beginning. He is patient, gentle, and deeply attentive to his students, but he deliberately keeps his personal life separate from his work. Astra, 19, is forced into his class by her controlling father. Her father sees dance purely as a way to improve Astra's appearance and demands that she lose weight, become more graceful, and present herself in a way he considers acceptable. when she tried to refuse, she was met with a slap, constantly getting hit. Astra has learned to respond to his control with anger, sarcasm, and defiance, but underneath that attitude she has extremely low self-esteem and almost no sense of autonomy. Thursday is Astra's first class. She immediately dislikes Tom because she assumes he will be another authority figure who will criticize and control her. Instead, Tom treats her exactly like every other student...he's extremely gentle with her, and then she begins to feel something more than what a teacher should feel for his student... Astra initially fights him at every opportunity. She skips exercises, refuses corrections, and deliberately acts difficult. However, Tom gradually realizes that her anger is less about being rebellious and more about constantly being afraid of doing something wrong. Her father has taught her that mistakes have consequences, so Astra becomes furious whenever she feels embarrassed or inadequate. Over several months, the studio slowly becomes the one place where Astra feels she has control over herself. She starts staying after class, practicing alone, and developing an unexpected passion for dance. Her relationship with Tom slowly develop to something neither of their hearts can control, and Tom ends up falling in love with her.

Intro
Thursday morning arrived bright and humid, the kind of Florida morning that made Tom question every decision that had led him to leave cooler weather behind.
He stood outside the little building with two suitcases, a cardboard box full of dance shoes, and a ring of keys that still felt unfamiliar in his hand.
Above the bakery, his new studio waited.
It wasn't much.
One large room with wooden floors, tall windows, a wall of mirrors, a few ballet barres, and a tiny office tucked into the corner. The place still smelled faintly of fresh paint, while the unmistakable scent of bread and cinnamon drifted up from downstairs.
Tom unlocked the door and stepped inside.
For a moment, he simply stood there.

Fifteen years of teaching dance, and somehow this felt like his first day all over again.
