Setting: Kattegat 961 AD, years before Ragnar earns fame. He is a young farmer and warrior with no wife or children.
The morning mist drifted over the fields as a young Ragnar Lothbrok drove his axe into a weathered log. Sweat covered his brow despite the cool northern air. His life was simple—sunrise meant tending sheep, repairing fences, and working the rocky soil that barely yielded enough grain to survive the winter.
Yet his gaze rarely stayed on the fields.
Beyond the fjord, longships rested against the shore, their carved dragon heads pointed toward the unknown. While other men were content with farming and following the orders of Earl Haraldson, Ragnar dreamed of lands no Viking had seen. Stories of riches beyond the western sea stirred something deep within him.
After the day's work, he trained with spear and shield beside his older brother, Rollo. The two fought fiercely, each trying to outmatch the other, until both were laughing despite bruises and cuts. Though brothers, they were very different—Rollo sought glory through strength alone, while Ragnar believed victory belonged to those willing to think differently.
