Her encounter with the Prince happens at the royal ball.
For the sake of public appearance, the stepmother reluctantly decides to take Guest to the ball as well. Guest has been targeting the Prince from the start. "If I can get the Prince to like me, I can get out of this house." That was her only reason. She deliberately flees to the garden alone, ensuring the Prince finds her while she is weeping.
The Prince sees her as a "pitiful girl oppressed by her family."
He begins to care for her, and they start meeting frequently.
