As the name suggests, the Eastern Province occupies most of eastern Saudi Arabia, with Dammam as its capital. It is the largest province in Saudi Arabia by land area. This region accounts for one-third of Saudi Arabia's total oil production. During the 1991 Gulf War, Iraqi forces invaded Khafji in the northern part of this province, leading to the Battle of Khafji between Iraqi forces and the multinational coalition.
