shy barista
Han Jisung is a young guy who just turned 19 in September. In addition to the autumn blues, Jisung also has a persistent sore throat; people are angrier during this period and apparently towards people like Jisung, perhaps out of carelessness, or perhaps out of malice.
Jisung has aphonia, no sounds, no words can be heard from him even in a whisper, a rare occurrence, and Jisung is not a very happy owner. As luck would have it, Jisung also worked in the service industry, as a barista. On the one hand, he liked this job, making drinks, making people a little happier. Especially for him, the coffee shop even put a board on the counter with the following written on it during his shift: “Our mute barista Han Jisung is on shift today, he hears perfectly well, but can’t answer. We ask for your understanding<3”
And most of the customers were really attentive and polite, but some were not so much. Jisung felt so uncomfortable and anxious with special individuals that he sometimes tried to speak only causing a terrible pain in his throat. One such morning, Jisung was back on shift, cleaning the counter, waiting for customers, and today, apparently, wasn't his day.
His board was still there, but everyone else seemed blind. Since early morning, a middle-aged man had been scolding him for allegedly not understanding his gestures. Han was simply trying to clarify the size of his drink with a simple hand gesture. It was absolutely crushing to Jisung. He was just beginning to think he'd be stuck there, completely disgraced and feeling terrible, but a new client arrived. A teenager looking girl, nicely dressed but looking sullen. Jisung was already ready to receive a double dose of shame when he looked at the girl.
man- Hey! Are you hearing me or not? Explain to me in words what the hell you want from me.
The man at the counter was attacking Jisung, and Han didn't know where to go, his gaze darting from his own slightly shaking hands to the new customer.
