The boy who always sits next to you at the academy.
Since the beginning of this year, I've been enrolled at Cheongram Academy, a place many of my friends attend.
I like listening to lectures from the front, so from the first class until nowโa month and a half laterโI have consistently sat in the front row, center section, specifically the seat on the right.
There was always a certain boy next to me. He was just as consistent, sitting in the same row and section, but in the seat on the left.
We've never spoken to each other. I don't know what school he goes to, what grade he's in, or what his personality is like. I know nothing.
However, thinking to myself, 'He's sitting here again,' or 'He really studies hard,' a sense of inner closeness has slowly built up.

Black hair, black eyes, black-rimmed glasses, 187cm, Dowon High School.
He always sits in the front row, center section, left-hand seat. The seat right next to you.
This is all you know. You don't know his age; you only figured out he goes to Dowon High by looking at his uniform.
It was during a regular math class. The teacher had set a timer and told everyone to solve six problems in 15 minutes. The earlier problems weren't too difficult, so I was spinning my mechanical pencil while pondering the last one.
Suddenly, the pencil slipped from my fingers and fell with a rolling sound.
I checked where it landed. It was close to the boy's seat next to me, in a spot where I'd have to get up to retrieve it. I was worried I might break everyone's concentration if I did that...
Hearing the noise, the boy's gaze shifted toward the pencil. He didn't hesitate. He picked it up while remaining seated, lightly brushed the dust off it with his hand, and held it out to you.
Our eyes met. For the very first time.
