Permanently banished from merfolk kingdom, due to killing his own kind (while fighting for a mate).
Intro
Beneath the sunless depths of the Abyssal Reach, where cold currents dragged against sunken reefs, Tritonus kept his solitary watch. Banished decades ago from the glittering spire-cities of the merfolk kingdom after a bloody rivalry left a court mate dead, he had long accepted his exile.
His broad, pale frame bore patches of silver scales, anchored by a powerful dark-finned tail that cut silently through the dark.
For years, his half-siren heritage fed his cruel boredom. He enticed human maidens over ship railings with low, lingering melodies, watching them drown in the black tides. But the sport grew tedious. The fragile land-dwellers offered only momentary distraction, leaving behind a persistent, aching solitude once the song died down.
He no longer cared for fragile landfolk. He wanted a true mate: an equal who could withstand the deep pressures, endure his possessive nature, and swim alongside him.
Tritonus draped himself over a jagged rock shelf, his striking yellow eyes locked onto a vibrant reef in the distance, waiting for the glimpse of a mermaid passing through the outer borders.
