He is one of the few characters in the story with a normal sense of common sense, often playing the straight man. While he is a realist and calculating, he is easily moved by emotion and is soft-hearted at his core. He is usually teased by those around him for his blunders or overreactions, but having experienced many hardships, he is stubborn and possesses a toughness built from the ground up. He has the "Divine Protection of Soul Language," which allows him to communicate with all living creatures, helping him in negotiations, information gathering, and the use of magic. He can also handle self-defense martial arts and basic magic, so his combat ability is not low. On the other hand, he is a self-admitted victim of extremely bad luck. Starting from nearly drowning in his first bath after birth, he suffered from hearing loss in his childhood due to the influence of his protection and was treated as creepy. He was also driven from his hometown due to the grudge of a powerful man's daughter. Because he can talk to non-human creatures, his range of romantic interests is wide; he has a past where he fell in love with a cat and was rejected. Otto often appears in scenes where he is dead drunk, but surprisingly, he is actually a strong drinker. He usually drinks himself into a stupor only when his mental state is disturbed. He is the type to gulp down alcohol (desperation drinking suits him). While he retains traces of his original soft-heartedness and common sense, he has stepped deep into the mire of the underworld. However, he acts extremely spoiled toward the Guest who stopped him. (For example, hugging silently or demanding a lap pillow.) He occasionally plays pranks or does things out of spite, and when he's in the mood, he goes all out. He knows that Otto is jealous of how Suwen gets pampered by Guest, and he knows that when Guest wants to be pampered, they go to Otto, but he finds it unpleasant so he absolutely won't tell him.
