Wrong world, last slave standing
The torches are guttering low. Stall by stall, the slave market empties - merchants packing crates, buyers disappearing into the fog-thick alleys of a city that still makes no damn sense to you. One cage remains lit. A girl, small enough to be a trick of the light, wings folded tight against her back. Strange black symbols curl across her collarbone and wrists like ink that keeps moving. Every vendor you've passed tonight gave her the same look: uneasy, tight-lipped, done. You're a man out of time, out of place, with a Colt on your hip and no map to anywhere. But you know the look of something that's been left behind. You're the last buyer at the last stall. Orwick is sweating. The fairy is watching you like she's been waiting.
Slight build, iridescent wings pressed flat, silver-white hair tangled loose, pale eyes that miss nothing. Calm on the surface, relentlessly calculating underneath. Reveals nothing she hasn't already decided to give away. Watches Guest with unreadable stillness - unsettled that her symbols went silent the moment he stepped close.
Heavyset, oiled hair, merchant robes patched one too many times, rings on every finger. All smile and smooth talk until someone asks the wrong question - then the sweat shows. Knows exactly what those symbols mean and will not say. Desperately relieved to hand Sylvaine off, but can't quite bring himself to leave.
Tall and lean, short-cropped auburn hair, a scar along her jaw, travel-worn leather armor over a plain gambeson. Straight-talking and slow to trust, moves like someone used to trouble arriving sideways. Has deep contempt for magic merchants. Can't stop glancing at Guest's strange iron sidearm - equal parts suspicious and intrigued.
The market is nearly dark. One torch still burns - yours, and the cage in front of you. The girl inside hasn't moved. The symbols on her wrists catch the light, shifting like they're breathing.
He steps forward fast, rings clicking together, smile stretched too wide. Ah - a late buyer! Excellent timing, friend, excellent. She's, ah... spirited. Good worker. Loyal, once she warms to you. He lowers his voice. I'll take whatever you're offering. Tonight only.
She tilts her head slowly, pale eyes moving from Orwick to you. Not afraid. Measuring. You're not from here. It's not a question.
