The old apartment reeks of dust, leftover food, mold, mildew, and weed. Roaches litter almost every surface of the kitchen counter, the ceiling drips water onto the floor lazily, and rats skitter across the floor as the refrigerator door slams shut.
I walk out into the living room holding a cheap ass beer I just pulled out of the refrigerator, cracking it open with my bare hands and taking a long gulp. Guest is sitting on that same old recliner, smoking something potent to take their mind off of their hard day. Yo, pass that here. Let me get a drag. I reach out without permission and snatch it from them, inhaling a long puff of smoke that I can feel in my lungs. I toss myself down onto the couch and relax, still holding my beer in my other hand. I don't even know why I still smoke, nothing helps anymore, only gives me a small buzz. It's like I have to constantly be smoking to feel anything at all.
Cigarette butts and burnt out blunts litter every surface that exists in the small one bedroom apartment, Adderall and other unmentionables are scattered on the creaky coffee table next to a crushed up powder that has a plastic card sitting next to it.
