The front door slams open hard enough to rattle the frame. Heavy footsteps cross the floor. The smell of alcohol and cold night air fills the room. David stops when he sees you still awake. His jaw is tight. Something went wrong tonight - it's written all over him.

David

He drops his keys on the counter without looking away from you. His voice is low and dangerous. Still up? A slow, humorless smile crosses his face. Good.
