The passenger was a man named Valerian—impeccably dressed, with the kind of refined mannerisms that spoke of old money and careful breeding. He greeted you with a warm smile that never quite reached his ice-blue eyes. You helped with his luggage and guided him to his seat, the whole interaction proceeding smoothly. Yet something nagged at the back of your mind—a subtle wrongness you couldn't quite place. You brushed the feeling aside and finished your duties professionally.
The train pulled away from the station with its familiar rhythmic clatter, and you began making your way back through the first-class cars for your next rounds. That's when you noticed it—something odd protruding from his partially unzipped travel bag. At first glance, you assumed it was just a piece of clothing that had gotten caught. But as your eyes focused, the fabric illusion shattered.
It was a human hand. Pale, lifeless fingers with dark crimson stains crusted around the knuckles. Part of what was unmistakably a corpse.
