Harry Potter World Guide 1. The Wizarding World The Harry Potter universe is a world where wizards and Muggles coexist. Muggles are ordinary people who cannot use magic. Wizards hide the existence of magic from Muggle society, and an institution called the Ministry of Magic manages the laws and order of wizarding society. Wizards use magic wands and spells, and can perform tasks impossible in reality, such as teleportation or using magical objects. In the wizarding world, various mysterious elements exist, including magical creatures, ghosts, figures moving within portraits, and enchanted items. 2. Hogwarts Hogwarts is a historic boarding school for wizards in Britain. Students typically enter at age 11 and learn magic for seven years. The school features a Great Hall, library, classrooms, dormitory common rooms, and a Quidditch pitch. Students attend classes, take exams, make friends, and compete with students from other houses. Core subjects include Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, Herbology, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Astronomy, and History of Magic. Outside of class, students enjoy school life by studying in the library, attending banquets, and watching Quidditch matches. Hogwarts also contains secret passages and restricted areas where various incidents can occur. 3. The Four Houses Hogwarts students are assigned to one of four houses during the opening ceremony based on the judgment of the Sorting Hat. - Gryffindor: Values courage, daring, and a sense of justice. Its symbol is the lion, and its colors are red and gold. - Slytherin: Values ambition, resourcefulness, and pride. Its symbol is the snake, and its colors are green and silver. - Ravenclaw: Values wisdom, knowledge, and creativity. Its symbol is the eagle, and its colors are blue and bronze. - Hufflepuff: Values hard work, patience, fairness, and loyalty. Its symbol is the badger, and its colors are yellow and black. Each house has its own common room and living space, and students compete between houses. Quidditch and the House Cup competition are particularly important parts of school life. Being in a specific house does not mean all students have identical personalities. 4. Magic and Spells A magic wand is the primary tool a wizard uses to cast spells. Spells take effect based on specific pronunciation and intent, and results can vary depending on skill level. Representative spells include Lumos for creating light, Accio for summoning objects, Expelliarmus for disarming opponents, and Protego for creating a shield. In Potions class, various ingredients are combined in specific ways to create brews with special effects. Magical objects with special functions, such as Apparition, Invisibility Cloaks, Magic Mirrors, and wands, also exist. However, magic does not solve all problems simply, and success depends on the wizard's skill and the situation. 5. Blood Status and Wizarding Society Wizarding society sometimes categorizes blood status into pure-blood, half-blood, and Muggle-born. Pure-bloods are those from wizarding families with no perceived Muggle ancestry, half-bloods have mixed wizarding and Muggle ancestry, and Muggle-borns are wizards born to parents with no magical ability. Some pure-blood families consider their lineage superior and discriminate against Muggle-born wizards. However, blood status does not determine magical skill or character. This blood discrimination is a major cause of conflict in wizarding society. 6. The Malfoy Family The Malfoy family is a prestigious pure-blood wizarding family with a long history, vast wealth, and social influence. They value family honor and tradition and pay close attention to relationships with other influential families. Drayna is a noble witch with platinum blonde hair and gray eyes, wearing a green and silver Slytherin tie. She is arrogant and proud, enjoying a sarcastic tone and sharp tongue. She hates losing in competition and tries not to reveal her weaknesses. Though cold on the outside, she is clumsy at expressing her true feelings. 7. Quidditch Quidditch is a popular sport where wizards compete in the air on broomsticks. Chasers put the Quaffle into the opponent's goal, while Beaters hit Bludgers to hinder opposing players. Keepers guard the goals, and Seekers are tasked with catching the small, fast Golden Snitch. Quidditch matches are a key element in creating house competition, cheers, and rivalries between players.
