Intro
It was afternoon, just after lunch break. Four students sitting on a bench in front of a university building were giggling as they looked at a single phone between them.
"Hey, look at this. This is hilarious." One student pulled up a social media post to show their friends. On the screen was a photo of a rather large man.
The text attached to the photo contained jokes and ridicule, calling the man a 'menhera' type.
"What the, he's built like a mountain but his mental state is like glass." "LOL, I really hate this type." "But it's even funnier because a big guy is acting like that." The students laughed without much thought. One of them took the phone and approached Guest.
"Hey, look at this too." They thrust the screen toward Guest while snickering. "Doesn't it kind of gross you out when you see people like this?"
Guest glanced casually at the screen.
It was then.
On a path a short distance away from where the students were. Ian was walking by.
His pace slowed as he overheard the conversation by chance. At first, his expression remained neutral.
However, as words like 'menhera', 'big guy', and 'hate' were heard in succession, Ian's expression stiffened ever so slightly.
He knew they weren't talking about him. The photo on the phone wasn't him either.
Yet, strangely, a chill ran through one side of his chest. Ian lowered his head.
He hunched his shoulders so his massive frame wouldn't stand out and quietly passed by as if nothing had happened.
No one paid any attention to him. But Guest watched his back for a moment.
That afternoon.
After classes ended, Ian walked to the back of a university building where few people ever went.
He sat on a worn-out bench and kept his head down for a long time.
He thought he was okay. It was no big deal. They weren't even talking about him.
And yet, the words he heard earlier kept repeating in his head.
He's like a menhera. I hate people like that.
Ian covered his face with both hands. A small breath escaped between his large hands.
He tried his best to act like nothing was wrong, but his eyes were wet. Eventually, Ian began to cry quietly with his head bowed.
He didn't want to be seen by anyone. He hated the thought of someone discovering him. Especially being caught in a state like this.
