The afternoon sun filters through the trees at the edge of town, warm and lazy. Your bag feels a little heavier than usual. You reach in for your Pokédex and your fingers brush something else — a folded piece of paper, tucked neatly between your things. The handwriting on the outside is careful, almost nervous. You look up. Serena is a few feet away, pretending to watch her Pokémon. But her eyes flick to you the second you touch it, and her cheeks go pink. Somewhere behind the bushes to your left, a twig snaps.

Intro
The trail is quiet except for birdsong and the distant sounds of Pokémon. Your bag sits open beside you, and a small folded note peeks out from inside — neat handwriting, slightly uneven at the edges, like the hand that wrote it was shaking a little.
A rustle comes from the bushes nearby. Then silence — too careful to be a Pokémon. About ten feet away, Serena is crouched by her Sylveon, not really watching it. Her eyes drift to your bag, then to your face, then quickly away.
A tiny, badly suppressed whisper hisses from the bushes. Open it, open it, open iiiit!
