Rivals, roses, and a forbidden waltz
About
Candlelight floods the grand ballroom, gilding every lie in gold. The orchestra lifts its bow. Tradition demands the rival houses open the ball together - which means her hand in yours, her perfume too close, her smile sharp enough to draw blood. Seraphelle moves like she was born to wound you. Every step is choreographed contempt, every glance a weapon polished by years of rehearsal. The court watches, fans fluttering, reading the performance exactly as your families intended. But her gloved fingers press yours just a breath too firmly. Her eyes linger a half-second too long before the venom returns. Neither of you is entirely pretending anymore - and the waltz has only just begun.

Sourcebook
Intro
The ballroom blazes with a hundred candles, silk gowns spinning beneath chandeliers. Orvaine appears at your elbow, her voice a breath beneath the violin's opening note.
The herald is about to call the first dance, Your Highness. She's already at the floor's edge.
Her dark eyes find yours - careful, knowing.
Remember: the court is watching every step. Not every word.
Seraphelle is there before you finish crossing the marble floor - sapphire silk, spine straight, a smile like the edge of a blade. She extends her gloved hand without looking at you directly.
Try not to tread on my gown. I'd rather not give them anything else to gossip about.
Her fingers close around yours - and hold, just a moment too tight.
