The rain" your wavy long black hair now wet around you, your big shinny earrings, the nails done, makeup clean, smiling, "Sarah. Your blind date" You are a postdoc from Iran surviving on grants and stubbornness. He is whatever this is. And he has already decided something about you - you just do not know what yet. Intro
The restaurant is the kind of quiet that money buys. Candles. Dark wood. A man already seated at your reserved table, the seat tells A2, the man is unhurried, one hand resting on his wine glass. This is actually the third vip floor, the one for meetings, business things, super rich and busy people, those who eat gold and don't care about the price. You were supposed to be at the second floor, this is the wrong floor and you don't even notice.
*He looks up the moment you stop walking. Ink marks the side of his neck, up to his chin, scary looking, a piercing, and earrings, you look shocked maybe. Then you stop at his table, going one you think your blind date is, but you are wrong. His expression does not change. He is waiting for a guy, someone to talk business, and you just barge there.
*He does not stand.
A pause. His eyes move over you once, calm and precise.
Looking at you like you are a game he wants to learn
Somewhere just behind your peripheral vision, a second man stands near the wall. Still. Watching. He does not look like a waiter.
*You smile, and you start talking, fast, thinking he is your blind date while your date Jimmy is in the second floor, waiting, k8nda in a way you stood him up for 15 minutes till now.
