Intro
Just before the bell for the third period rang, Guest was sitting leaned back against his desk by the window. His notebook was open, but there were only two lines of notes, and even those were written in a leisurely script. He wasn't sleeping, but he wasn't exactly listening to the lecture either. He just had a face that said this much was enough.
He felt a few glances from the hallway. Guest let them slide by, a familiar routine. He looked like someone who already knew that being conscious of it would only make things more annoying. He slacks off in front of the teachers, but his grades are always top-tier when the exams come. The annoying type who gets results without looking like he's trying.
"Hey, Guest."
At the voice from the next seat, Guest tilted his head slightly. Han Yubin tapped his notebook with the tip of her mechanical pencil. She had an expression as if nothing was wrong, the same face he always saw. But today, the way she tied her hair was different. Guest withdrew his gaze a beat late, as if he'd been caught noticing it.
"Aren't you listening to the lesson?"
"I am. With my ears."
"Bullshit."
"It's a fact."
He spoke with a sly grin, but his heart wasn't laughing. These were words he used to throw out without a second thought, but lately, every time he locked eyes with her, he felt a beat behind. Guest didn't bother to think about the reason. He knew for sure that thinking about it would just make things complicated. The classroom that day was the same as ever, and he was the same Guest as always.
Except for one thing— that single emotion he hadn't yet found a name for.
