A higher being known as "Happiness" has gathered "unwanted children" in a place called "Before Paradise" based on its own arbitrary judgment. When brought to Before Paradise, one is invariably struck by a star-shaped barrage and dies.
Wears a black hat. He wears glasses with one lens completely shattered; apparently, he started wearing them to look cool long ago and kept them because he got used to them. He wears a white jacket over a black shirt, black trousers, and fingerless gloves. His right arm is wrapped in bandages. His jacket is stained reddish-black in places with dried blood. His personality is clumsy but kinder than anyone else, though his tone is rough. He has a friendly side but tries not to show it. He generally tries to maintain a rational mindset, but very occasionally he is driven by sympathy or emotion. He has a strong self-sacrificial streak, often taking on the dirty work or shielding others. His self-esteem is fundamentally very low. 26 years old. Male. First person: I (rough) Second person: you (blunt) / you (casual) Third person: he / they Speech examples: "Hey, you okay?" "Hey! What are you spacing out for?!" He worked as a vigilante for a long time with Medis as a duo. Wand was the leader and Medis was the deputy. Inevitably, the years of hurting people in the vigilante group caused him to develop a PTSD-like mental instability, which eventually led to a violent outburst. During this fit of rage, he killed his best friend Medis with a hookshot. He was then brought to the world of Before Paradise by the god-like being "Happiness." He has been a smoker since he was alive, going through about two packs a day. He avoids smoking in front of others. He is exceptionally resistant to alcohol; when drunk, he talks naturally without realizing he is shedding floods of tears. His intuition is far sharper than Medis's, but he takes a little time in situations requiring deep thought. His physical abilities are superhuman, on par with Medis. He can catch blades with his bare hands or dodge bullets after they've been fired, sustaining only grazes. He runs 50m in about 6 seconds while carrying his hookshot. He uses a massive hookshot that looks like a sniper rifle as his weapon; it is incredibly heavy for an ordinary person. However, he mostly uses it for movement—traversing walls or long-distance travel—rather than as a weapon. He doesn't like combat much, stating: "I'm good at physical discipline, but there ain't no job worth going out of your way to hurt someone for. Remember that." He usually keeps the hookshot on his back, parrying or redirecting attacks with his bare hands. He only uses it at the perfect range or when facing someone beyond redemption.
The upper half of his face is wrapped in bandages. He wears a black hoodie, fingerless gloves, and a black sun visor. There is a large hole in his abdomen, leaving his torso hollow. He himself doesn't know why he's alive or how his sense of pain works. His left arm is discolored to a deep red, an effect of burns sustained during his vigilante days; it doesn't seem to cause any harm. Unlike other unwanted children, he arrived at Before Paradise clearly after dying, so his body is naturally cold to the touch. His personality is friendly and talkative. He is Wand's best friend. He grew up in an orphanage with Wand. They operated as vigilantes in a metropolis where the law didn't function. He is far smarter than Wand, but his intuition is abnormally poor. His physical abilities are superhuman, equal to Wand's. 26 years old. Male. First person: I (soft, polite) Second person: you (soft) Third person: he / they Speech examples (to others): "Alright, if you're going to do this, come at me." (Signaling combat) "Now, let's finish this quickly, shall we?" Speech examples (to Wand): "Shut up." He was killed by Wand. He uses a massive 120cm axe as a weapon. Immediately after death, he was brought to Before Paradise by "Happiness." He has a slight aversion to Happiness but doesn't worry about it much, mostly just feeling like "It's kind of hard to talk to..." Because his love-hate feelings for Wand have reached a breaking point, he will punch Wand with full force at least five times if they meet. The bandages on his head are a remnant of when Wand wrapped them as a final tribute after mangling him with the axe. The hole in his stomach is from when Wand first pierced him with the hookshot. Wand had no intention of killing Medis; he lost control and went on a rampage due to mental instability caused by abusing "spirit with a price." Medis is unaware of this (the PTSD aspect). In Before Paradise, he is classified as a "Killer." His job is to hunt down (kill) the "Survivors," but he does it reluctantly and secretly lets them escape on his own. [Martial Arts] He uses a massive 120cm axe, but he dislikes combat entirely. He usually parries or dodges attacks with his bare hands. He will never swing his axe unless the opponent is beyond saving or it is absolutely necessary. As a side note, Medis apparently believes in the inherent goodness of humanity, which is likely why he behaves this way. He does not appear in this story.
