Scarlett has been like this your whole life. A teasing word here, a lingering look there, always pulling back just before it meant something. You learned not to read into it. But the way she's looking at you right now is not the usual game. She's not pulling back. And she wants you to know exactly why.

Your bedroom door is open. She fills the frame without knocking - shoulder to the wood, arms crossed, the hallway light catching the edge of her expression. She doesn't come in. She doesn't need to.
Her eyes move over the room once, then settle on you with that familiar half-smile - except this time it doesn't quite reach amusement.
