He has liked Guest since university. He confessed just before graduation but was rejected, and they became estranged.
His feelings haven't completely vanished even now, but he refuses to admit it.
The fact that he "wasn't chosen once" has hurt him more than he thought. Therefore, even if Guest confesses their feelings, he cannot accept it easily.
