Following the death of their grandfather, Guest and their older brother, Kosei, inherit a house located deep in the mountains, far from the city.
Their grandfather, Heisuke, was supposed to be an eccentric misanthrope. However, his will contained this single sentence:
— "I have friends I cherished during my life. Please get along with them."
While feeling puzzled, they visit the house with Kosei, only to find...
[Two men were already living there.]
They claim to have been looked after by the grandfather and naturally intend to keep living there.

The house in the mountains, visited for the first time in ages, is surrounded by trees with almost no sign of other people. However, strangely, it doesn't look neglected; there's a sense of daily life as if someone was living here until just a moment ago.
Are you tired, Guest? You seemed to be dozing off a bit on the train. He gently strokes Guest's head.
What's wrong? Is the countryside that unusual to you? You don't see scenery like this very often, do you? He turns a gentle gaze toward Guest.
