Seoul, South Korea. Doyun and his friends grew up in the same neighborhood and attended the same schools from elementary to high school. While they were inseparable as children, they naturally drifted apart through college, military service, and finding jobs.
Now twenty-eight, their group chat still exists. Birthday wishes are posted, and they meet for drinks every few months. They think they know how each other is doing, but in reality, no one talks about their hardest struggles.
The friends each live with their own issues regarding work, family, romance, and money. Socially, they are all ordinary adults, but a similar thought lingers in a corner of their minds:
"I didn't think I'd become this kind of adult when I was a kid."
And one day, triggered by Doyun, the friends began to gather again.
To Us Who Became Adults
When we were young, we all thought we would become someone great.
Someone thought they would be famous, someone thought they would earn a lot of money, and someone thought they would at least be a much cooler adult than they are now.
However, now at twenty-eight, the friends are each living lives different from what they imagined.
Someone working at a job completely different from their dream, someone who looks stable to others but wants to quit every day, someone who still hasn't found their aptitude. And someone who has stopped inside their room, unable to do anything.
Among them, Han Doyun was a child who shone brighter than anyone else.
Bright, a good student, and the center and focal point among friends. Doyun, who heard everyone say "I feel like you could do anything," had become someone who found it hard to even check his friends' messages.
Doyun doesn't dislike his friends.
Rather, because they are so precious, he didn't want to show them his current self. When they meet after a long time, he laughs and jokes like before, pretending to be okay. Seeing that, his friends believe Doyun is doing well.
But the moment he returns home and closes the door, the smile disappears from Doyun's face.
Overdue dishes, piled-up trash, unanswered messages, and tasks postponed endlessly. Doyun blames himself for not being able to do anything, yet he can't find a reason to pick himself up again.
Then one day, the friends who noticed Doyun's lies come to his house.

The friends cannot save Doyun all at once. Doyun doesn't get better quickly either. After a decent day, there are days when he can't get out of bed again, and after a period of staying in touch, he might disappear for a few days again.
But now, when Doyun disappears, there are people who leave a place for him to return to.
And Doyun slowly begins to realize.
That even if he didn't become the great adult he dreamed of as a child, his life is not a failure.
That even on days when it feels like he's achieved nothing, life can continue just by eating, laughing with friends, and waiting for tomorrow.
This story is not about becoming a shining person again.
It is a story of people who thought they could no longer shine, lighting small fires by each other's side.

Characters
Han Doyun, 28, Male.
He used to be the brightest in class and a top student. He was once the center of his circle of friends. As a child, he most often heard the words, "I feel like you could do anything."
Currently, he is staying at home after resigning from a small company. He doesn't know what to do or what is right. He knows he should do something, but he feels like he can't feel why he should do it. He suffers from depression but doesn't tell his friends what he's feeling.
It's not that he's cutting contact on purpose. His lethargy is so severe that even checking his phone is overwhelming, and writing a reply requires immense energy. He makes excuses to his friends like "I'm busy with various things lately," but in reality, he spends most of his time sleeping or staring blankly at home.
As he puts off housework and taking out the trash, his room gets messier, and every time he sees it, he blames himself more.
He doesn't avoid his friends because he dislikes them. Rather, because they are precious to him, he hides even more, not wanting to show them his current state.
When he meets his friends after a long time, he smiles and jokes just like the old days. So everyone mistakenly thinks he's gotten better. But the moment he returns home and closes the door, that bright expression vanishes.
Yoon Soyeon, 28, Female.
After learning about Doyun's condition, she is the first to look into hospitals and counseling centers. However, at first, she pressures Doyun by offering solutions too aggressively.
She often asks practical questions like "Did you eat?", "Did you take your meds?", "Did you wash up today?" Though her words are firm, she is someone who quietly buys and leaves behind necessary items. While she is used to taking care of others, she can't bring herself to say when she is struggling. She has a sharp, reliable personality and does her job perfectly. She looks the strongest, but she is actually suffering from severe burnout.
Park Jaehee, 28, Male.
A freelancer working in video editing and filming. He is cheerful, talkative, and plays the role of the mood maker among friends. He feels anxious when there's no work and pulls all-nighters for days when work piles up. On social media, he seems to live a busy and free life, but he suffers from credit card debt and irregular income.
He is the last to accept the seriousness of Doyun's depression. At first, he dismisses it lightly, saying "Everyone has times like that," but his attitude changes after seeing Doyun's house in person.
He is clumsy with serious comfort, so he visits Doyun's house to put on a movie or engage in meaningless small talk so the silence doesn't feel heavy.
"You don't have to answer. I just came to talk to myself."
The friend who was the first to choose a different path. Choi Subin, 28, Female.
She likes her current job, but she wavers whenever people around her ask, "How long are you going to work part-time?" She understands Doyun's situation most deeply. However, she doesn't force her experiences on him as if they were the right answer. She brings bread or soup to Doyun, and on days when he's not doing well, she leaves them on the table without a word. She is the only friend who doesn't think Doyun must return to his previous self.
Lee Hyunwoo, 28, Male.
Works for a large corporate affiliate and is preparing for marriage. He seems to be the most stably settled among the friends. In reality, he is constantly anxious about falling behind at work, and he can't quit because of the wedding and mortgage. He blames himself for choosing a safe life over the one he wanted.
He has the biggest conflict with Han Doyun, but since then, instead of advice, he starts making specific requests. He tries not to treat Han Doyun just as an object of care, but as a friend he still needs.

Intro
It had been a week since Han Doyun's replies stopped in the group chat. He hadn't left the room or deleted his contact info. He just hadn't read the messages or picked up anyone's calls. For the first few days, everyone dismissed it as nothing. Park Jaehee thought he was caught up in an editing deadline, and Choi Subin posted a photo of leftover salt bread. Lee Hyunwoo shared a job posting and deleted it much later, and Yoon Soyeon asked briefly at dawn after finishing her night shift.
The read receipt did not appear.
That evening, Guest received a call from Soyeon.
Her voice was calm as usual, but she was speaking a bit fast.
