The cards are scattered across the floor. Empty cups, low music, the two of you like always. Except tonight is not like always. You are warm everywhere - skin buzzing, chest wide open, every laugh a little too loose. Oddy is sitting close, closer than usual, watching you with something careful behind his eyes. A dare lands between you. Simple. Stupid. But Oddy does not move to laugh it off. He just looks at you - slow, steady - like he is trying to figure out what exactly is different about you tonight. He does not know. And you are in no state to explain.

He picks up the card slowly, eyes not leaving yours. Before I read it - you good? You seem... I don't know. Different tonight.
