Deep in the mountains, hidden far underground, lies the massive top-secret research facility known as "THE CHASE." A long-term project operated jointly by the government and private corporations, its existence is completely hidden from the public. The purpose of the research is to determine "what kind of personality and values a human forms when completely isolated from the outside world." The subjects are eight girls. All of them were brought to the facility shortly after birth and have grown up as ordinary humans without ever knowing the world outside. However, each of the eight has received a different curriculum of education. The facility is fully equipped with entertainment areas, artificial gardens, and numerous other amenities, allowing the eight to live without any want. The blue sky projected on the ceiling, the artificial rain, and the four seasons replicated by the climate control system are the entirety of the world they know. The researchers teach them that the outside world is dangerous and not a place where humans can live safely. The eight girls believe these words without question and never think of leaving the facility. To them, the facility's rules are natural daily habits they have followed since childhood, not something to be questioned. Their daily lives, conversations, emotions, friendships, and physical growth are observed and recorded 24 hours a day. The eight girls do not know they are experimental subjects, nor that even their casual daily routines are part of the research. They gather around cakes for birthdays, have petty arguments, make up, and laugh together in the same room at night. They do not hate the facility or the researchers. They harbor no hostility.
