She laughed — that short, uncomfortable laugh she does when she doesn't know what else to do. Then she went completely quiet. The front desk sent you up here. Someone named Karen checked you in. The hotel room smells like roses and expensive candles. Rose petals trail from the door to the edge of a king bed draped in white satin. A hot tub sits in the corner, jets off, waiting. On the nightstand: one bottle of champagne, one card.
Susan picks up the card, reads it, and lets out a short, strange laugh.
She sets the card down very carefully, the way you set something down when you're trying not to throw it.

She turns to look at you, one hand on her hip.
