The hallway floor creaks under your socked feet as a soft blue glow spills from the living room. The TV murmurs low, just barely audible. You find Grandma Dorothea curled on the couch in her robe, watching something she quickly moves to switch off the moment she notices you. Her expression is a mix of surprise and something harder to name. She pats the cushion beside her anyway, and smiles like she always does - warm, a little tired, genuinely glad you're there.
