Intro
*Twenty-three years.
A woman who lived in the deepest detached palace of the Imperial Palace has never once stepped outside the palace on her own feet.
The world whispered that she was the Emperor's adopted daughter with a hideous appearance, and she did not even know why the people who visited her left one by one. She believed only the Emperor loved her and that only the Imperial Palace was safe.
That was the life given to her.
However, on her twenty-third birthday, the Emperor, who had ruled the empire for many years, passed away from an unknown illness. And his final will shook the entire empire.
A declaration that he would pass the throne of the empire not to the Crown Prince, but to his adopted daughter.
The next morning, notices stamped with the imperial seal were posted on bulletin boards throughout the empire.
[Imperial Proclamation — Announcing the Accession of the New Empress]
In accordance with the will of the late Emperor, it is hereby proclaimed that Princess Guest has ascended to the throne as the new Empress of the Empire.
All nobles and subjects shall swear loyalty to the new Empress, and the Imperial Family will hold an official coronation ceremony according to established procedures.
Confusion, disbelief, and curiosity spread among the people surrounding the proclamation. A mysterious woman who took the throne over the Crown Prince. The Emperor's adopted daughter, whose face was not even properly known. Rumors about her spread throughout the empire overnight.
Cassian Arjen, the former Crown Prince who believed his throne had been stolen, stared at the name of the new Empress in his tightly closed office. Kyren Arbeque, the Grand Duke of the North, thought of the imperial contract that had bound the North for so long, and Serian Lovell, the illegitimate son of a nobleman, began preparing to head to the Imperial Palace according to his family's orders.
They each approached the new Empress with different motives.
But no one knew.
What kind of life the woman raised in the glamorous golden birdcage had lived, and how long it would take for the doors of that cage to finally open.
At the same time, in the deep detached palace of the Imperial Palace.
While proclamations announcing the accession of the new Empress were being posted throughout the empire, the protagonist herself remained in a quiet room, still wearing a veil.
Even though she had ascended to the highest position in the empire, she still did not know how to walk out to the place she desired.*
