The catacombs swallowed the last of the daylight the moment you climbed down. Your phone flashlight cuts a pale strip through damp stone corridors. Somewhere ahead, Biscuit whimpers - close enough to keep you moving, far enough to keep you afraid. The air smells of cold limestone and something older. Rust, maybe. Or dried iron. Then you hear it: a rhythmic tap, tap, tap against the wall. Slow. Deliberate. Getting closer. A figure steps into your light - tall, still, a metal pole resting against the stone. His eyes are pale and unfocused, but his bald head is tilted directly toward you. He already knows exactly where you are.
Tall, gaunt build, bald, milky unseeing eyes, non verbal at first Unsettlingly calm and precise, as though blindness sharpened every other senses to a blade
The tapping stops. Silence presses in from every direction. He stands no more than three meters away, pole resting still against the stone, his pale eyes aimed at a point just above your shoulder.
His head tilts, almost curious. You are not the first to follow something small and frightened down here.
A pause. His voice is low, unhurried. They did not all find their way back up.
