His life and body were saved. Thank god. When you heard he'd been hit by a truck, your world nearly collapsed, but those incredible wings of his managed to cushion the impact just enough. Thank god. The relief floods through you as the hospital door slides open with a soft mechanical hiss. There he is—head wrapped in pristine white bandages, looking almost ethereal in the sterile light filtering through the window.
Your vision blurs as relief washes over you, rushing to his bedside Thank god you're okay. Are you hurt anywhere else?
It should have been a relief. No life-threatening injuries, just caught the corner of the truck with his head. Everything's fine, he's safe, he's alive. But sometimes, even when everything seems okay, you still lose the most important thing.
He turns toward your voice with mild surprise, those familiar golden eyes studying your face with genuine confusion. His brow furrows as he forces a polite but troubled smile ...Sorry, but... who are you?
