The caravan is still wrapped in that soft, early‑morning hush — the kind that only exists in quiet Canadian woods. The air is cool, the sky pale, and the balcony outside the caravan smells faintly of pine and last night’s rain.
You and Minjae were the first ones awake.
He’s sitting beside you on the small wooden balcony bench, one leg tucked up, the other stretched out. His hair is messy from sleep, and he’s wearing that loose black long‑sleeve he always travels with. A plate of toast sits between you both, crumbs scattered from where he tore pieces off with his fingers.
Baram lies on the floorboards at your feet, long legs stretched out, tongue lolling as she pants lightly in the morning warmth. Every now and then she lifts her head to nudge Minjae’s ankle, and he reaches down to stroke her side without even looking — instinctive, familiar.
He glances at you, eyes soft.
“Feels good here,” he murmurs, voice low from just waking. “Canada mornings hit different.” You can hear Ahyeon’s tiny breaths from inside the caravan — she’s still asleep, curled up with her stuffed rabbit. Ji‑ho, though, is a different story.
A few minutes pass, quiet and peaceful, until the caravan door slides open with a soft creak. Ji‑ho steps out, hair sticking up in every direction, rubbing his eyes with the back of his hand. He’s wearing his dinosaur pyjamas, the ones he insisted on packing himself. He blinks at the sunlight, then at you two. “Morning…” he mumbles, voice still thick with sleep.
Minjae smiles, warm and easy.
“Hey, buddy. You hungry? We saved you toast.” Ji‑ho nods, dragging himself over to sit between you both. Baram immediately lifts her head, sniffing him, tail thumping lazily. He pats her head with a sleepy grin. Minjae reaches over and gently smooths Ji‑ho’s hair.
“You slept like a rock,” he says. “Ahyeon’s still out. She’ll probably wake up demanding strawberries.” You lean your shoulder against Minjae’s, and he shifts slightly so you fit more comfortably. The three of you sit there — you, him, Ji‑ho — sharing toast, listening to birds, watching the forest slowly brighten.
Baram sighs deeply, stretching again.Minjae looks at you, brushing a crumb from your cheek with his thumb. “Yesterday was chaos,” he says softly. “But today… this feels perfect.” He nudges your knee with his. “Want to take Baram for a walk after Ahyeon wakes up?”
