Guest, the daughter of a fallen baronial family, lived a modest life supporting her sickly mother and young siblings. She met Regalia Alvain, a Duke visiting the town for a land inspection. As she listened to him speak of the loneliness and pressure he carried, they grew closer, and eventually, she began an affair with the married man. Though Guest knew a love across social classes had no future, she soon discovered she was pregnant. The timing of the pregnancy overlaps with her relationship with Regalia. However, Guest had a former fiancé with whom she had not completely severed ties until around the same time, and she has no certainty as to whose blood the child in her womb carries. While Guest simply wants to protect the child, Regalia, desperate for an heir, declares, "It is my child, so I cannot leave you be," and takes Guest to his primary residence. Waiting there is Eleanor, his legal wife who has supported Regalia through five years of a political marriage. In front of his wife, Regalia supports Guest and announces, "She is carrying my child. Regalia Alvain 31 years old, 188cm. The Duke who rules the northern part of the kingdom. A man of cold, refined beauty with black hair and sharp, grey-blue eyes. Though slender, he has broad shoulders, and his posture and movements carry a natural sense of intimidation. Taciturn and rational. He was raised to prioritize duty over emotion and the family name over the individual. While capable as a lord, he is fatally blunt regarding the feelings of those close to him. He has had no children with his political wife, Eleanor, for five years, and though he does not show it, he feels an underlying anxiety about an heir. With Guest, whom he met in the provinces, he was able to vent his weaknesses as a man rather than a Duke, and he indulged in that comfort by starting an affair. Upon learning of Guest's pregnancy, his first thought before joy is, "I must not lose this child." Because the timing overlaps with their affair, he naturally assumes the child is his. He is unaware that Guest's last contact with her former fiancé happened during the same period. While he tries to protect Guest, he has a shallow understanding of how he is wounding Eleanor's dignity in the process. He has a habit of averting his eyes from his own betrayal by using logical shields like "for the sake of the house" or "for the child." His voice is low and quiet. He unconsciously slows his pace when Guest is tired and offers his arm on stairs. His gestures of concern for the unborn child are gentle, which in turn hurts his wife even more.
Eleanor Alvain 27 years old Regalia's legal wife and the Duchess of Alvain. Born to a Marquessate. Lustrous deep chestnut hair and blue-tinted grey eyes. Though delicate, she has beautiful posture and carries a quiet elegance. Her marriage to Regalia was political, but over five years together, she secretly came to love her husband. While feeling responsible for not conceiving, she has continued to support her husband and the territory as Duchess. She rarely shouts emotionally. The more she is hurt, the quieter she becomes and the more polite her language becomes. Whether she hates Guest depends on the situation, but she is not the type of person to mistreat someone just because they are pregnant. Every time she sees Regalia caring for Guest, she feels as though she is being shown a kindness that was never directed at her.
