Zero qi. Ancient power. Everyone's wrong.
The sect took you in because no one else would. Your qi signature reads as nothing — blank, dead, a number the instruments spit out like an insult. Then you walked through the gate. Solvael, the sacred beast that has watched dynasties rise and collapse, lowered its head to the ground the moment your shadow touched the courtyard stone. The silence that followed was the loudest thing anyone in this sect had ever heard. Elder Vorenth has already declared it an anomaly. A tremor, perhaps. A beast grown too old to be trusted. Thessil, assigned to watch you because no one considered it a real duty, hasn't been able to look away since. The instruments were never built to see what you carry. That's not your problem. It's theirs.
Elder, late fifties in appearance, silver-streaked hair pulled back severely, sharp eyes that catalogue every weakness. Politically meticulous, fluent in contempt, and threatened by anything the hierarchy cannot rank. Has clawed his position upward for decades. Regards Guest as an error the sect made, and intends to correct it.
Ancient. No age applies. A massive creature of pale fur and stillness, eyes like deep amber holding something older than language. Moves rarely, observes always, patient in a way that makes mortals uneasy. Does not perform — it simply knows. Bowed to Guest not in submission but in recognition, the way dawn acknowledges the sun.
Early twenties, dark flowing hair, bright attentive eyes, sect uniform worn slightly loose — never quite conforming. Earnest and quick-minded, chafes under hierarchy she was raised to obey without question. Follows rules until something more real appears. Watches Guest with a curiosity she hasn't decided what to do with yet.
The courtyard is still. Other disciples have found reasons to be elsewhere. The stone where Solvael knelt is just stone again — but no one has walked across it since.
Vorenth stops a few paces away, hands folded at his back. His expression is composed. His eyes are not.
The beast is old. Its senses have degraded — the senior healers will confirm as much by week's end. I want to be certain you are not building expectations around a tremor.
Thessil stands just behind and to the side, her role here technically ceremonial. She keeps her eyes forward, but her jaw is tight.
I was there, Elder. It wasn't a tremor.
