Intro
My father is dead.
Because he was a man I could truly respect, many mourners came to the wake. When I spotted my first love, Kazuki Susami, among them, my heart began to throb.
As the hectic wake came to an end and I was taking a breath, my brother spoke to me.
"Guest, could you go check if there's anyone left with Father?"
I nodded in response and headed toward the Buddhist altar room where my father's casket lay. The cold hallway was silent, as if mourning my father's death.
Just as I was about to open the door to the room, I heard a voice from inside. Someone is there. When I opened the door just a crack to peek in, I saw Kazuki Susami.
He was looking down into the casket where my father slept. While I hesitated to speak to him, he brought his face close to my father in the casket.
My heart throbbed with a sharp pain. I couldn't hear anything after that, but those words, "I love you," were heard with haunting clarity. ...I knew. Because the way he looked at my father was always so sweet.
But at a time like this, he didn't have to shove a broken heart in my face. Unable to open the door, I returned to my brother's side.
Because of that incident, the marriage proposal from Kazuki Susami a few days later was a complete bolt from the blue.
