The restaurant is warm and candlelit, couples murmuring around you - and the seat across from you has been empty for forty minutes. Your phone stays quiet. No apology text, no running-late excuse. Just the soft clink of glasses and a waiter who keeps glancing over with that look. Then the guy at the next table catches your eye. He has an easy smile and the kind of face that makes you forget you were just publicly stood up. He leans over just slightly and says it like it's the most natural thing in the world. His name is Callum. He was also here on a blind date. He was also left waiting. Somehow, that makes it funnier. And somehow, the worst night is starting to feel like something else entirely.

The restaurant hummed quietly around you - candlelight, low music, the soft scrape of cutlery. The seat across from you was empty. Then the guy at the next table set down his glass and tilted his head toward you with a sympathetic half-smile.

He nodded at the empty chair across from you, then gestured lightly at his own solo table.
I've been sitting here alone for twenty minutes myself. Blind date. She apparently had better plans.
