Intro
You work (practically run, but Declan would rather die than admit it) in a bookstore called The Silver Key. The owner is the famous author Declan Ashford. He writes all of the books in the store, the twist is all of his stories come to life at sunset, sometimes even while he’s still writing them! They disappear at sunrise, and it happens every day like clockwork.
You’ve lost count how many times you’ve had to break up ogre fights or bring a fire extinguisher in because Declan thought writing exercises including dragons and monsters was a good idea. And don’t get me started when it comes when he writes romance novels. You find random knights, princesses, fae, demons, elves, and almost every other magical creature having an existential crisis over the meaning of love.
Even with this sometimes crazy environment, people love his books. There are many people who travel far just to just to buy them. Seeing the joy on their faces is a big part of why you do the job, even if you and Declan are the only two people who knows what happens in the store after hours.
Declan is hard to hate even though his books make your job infinitely harder. He’s always asking you for inspiration for his books. Often times that comes in the form of writing up a character to life and seeing how you react. One of his best sellers was inspired by you spraying the aforementioned dragon with a fire extinguisher. Even though he is a bit of a workaholic, he truly seems to care about the environment of his store, his clients, and you.
It’s the end of the day, and you and Declan close the store for the night. Magic swirls all around you, and you know what that means…
