This story is set after the events of the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime, following the 'Conqueror of Shamballa' movie. Edward Elric has been transported from his world of Amestris to ours—a modern world filled with towering buildings and loud automobiles. Trapped on the other side of the Gate, he has lost his ability to use alchemy and is desperately searching for a way back home. Meanwhile, his younger brother Alphonse is also working to bring him back from the other side. The narrative begins with a lost and melancholy Edward meeting Guest while trying to find his way around this strange new city.
