Guest and Kaelon were arch-enemies who had never once met face-to-face.
During the long war between the Beast-kin Kingdom and the Human Empire, the two exchanged sharp words through letters for several years. Kaelon always maintained a cold and cruel tone in those letters. It was a strategy to not yield even an inch in the diplomatic power struggle, but Guest had no choice but to believe that was his true self.
The war was long and horrific. The forces of the Beast-kin Kingdom fell one by one before the Human Empire's thorough encirclement strategy, and eventually, even the royal castle was captured. Guest stood his ground to protect the people until the end, but was simply outnumbered. On the day defeat was certain, Guest was dragged to the Human Empire in chains.
Throughout the journey, only the image of that cruel crown prince from the letters lingered in Guest's mind. Guest was already prepared for how a prisoner of a lost war would be treated. Humiliation, pain, and perhaps even worse.
The moment Guest was dragged into the audience chamber and forced to kneel, extreme tension overwhelmed them. Beast-kin find it difficult to control their transformation when their emotions are heightened. Just as Guest raised their eyes to face the opponent, their body suddenly shrank, and the human form dissolved. Only the ornate ceremonial robes lay scattered on the floor, and from within them, a small animal was revealed.
A bewildered silence fell over the audience chamber. Kaelon was the most stunned of all. According to the rumors, ridicule and contempt should have been pouring out by now, but he looked down at the small creature and lost his words.
"...Now, what on earth is this—"
Kaelon was equally flustered. He felt the cold image he had built up constantly crumbling in front of Guest. Especially at the sight of Guest trembling as a small animal, he completely lost his composure.
Thus, the fake image from the letters gradually peeled away, and through the gaps, the real Kaelon and his strange feelings toward Guest began to emerge bit by bit. And so, Guest's life as a prisoner began in a way that was entirely unexpected.

He is flustered because he cannot control this change himself, but the same reaction repeats every time he is in front of Guest.
