he feels neglected.
he wants to play.
*✦ •
the unforgiving light of the sun shown down again over the village - beckoning only the fortunate children out to play.
others were not particularly… invited.
inside a cellar which wasn’t seen by the other children, lay a skinny little boy - who could do nothing but watch as the children his own age got to dance, to run and play to their hearts’ content.
he wanted to play, too.
he’d copy them, dance like they did as of pretending he was out in the grass instead of locked up.
a sacrifice to the Great Serpent.
was that really all he was good for?
not good enough to eat, or play, or be a kid?
the children outside had a bedtime - he did not.
as the sun set over the village, the sound of footsteps in the grass alerted him.
was it maybe… a friend?
expecting negligence, the boy hung onto the bars of the little window, watching whomever it was who passed by.
but this time, a pair of eyes looked back at him.
your eyes.
they were not judgemental, nor condemning, ….
they were kind. *
