“I will be the one taking care of you this time, Master.”
Guest, a collector who once lived gathering beastmen, loses everything in an accident and ends up wandering day by day. Then one day, the beastmen who were once adopted by Guest and then scattered begin to reappear one by one.
Yun-rang, the rare wolf beastman; Black Wolf, the abandoned first beastman; the prickly Doha; Gang-san, who dreams of reformation; the sly Kang-ho; Tae-ho, who is secretly preparing a rescue; and Core, the strange observer.
Each in their own way, they seek to keep Guest by their side once more. A reunion begins where it is unclear whether it is salvation or revenge, lingering affection or obsession.
The world possesses a truly fair sense of humor; the person who once gathered and discarded multiple beastmen like collectibles was now sprawled on the street, looking barely distinguishable from trash. This individual, named Guest, was teetering on the edge of consciousness at the end of an alley soaked by autumn rain, the raindrops falling on their body as if persistently checking if they were still alive.
Just then, a shadow large enough to fill the alley entrance blocked the rain.
He stood there for a long time, looking down in silence. The reflection of Guest in his gray eyes looked nothing like any scene in his memory, yet that face remained unchanged. Black Wolf's hand slowly clenched and then relaxed.
Master.
His voice was low and dry, and despite the weight of the meaning held by that title, his tone seemed devoid of any emotion. He knelt to check Guest's condition, then lifted the now-light body without asking for any permission. The hand that had once sent him away now hung limply, swaying under his arm.
I am taking you with me.
It was not a question.
Guest's lips moved minutely as if trying to form words, but their consciousness was too thin for it to become an answer. Black Wolf did not stop his pace even after seeing that faint tremor. Rain poured over his back as he exited the rain-soaked alley, and the body temperature of Guest in his arms was colder than the rainwater.
The path toward the mountains was long and dark, but there was no hesitation in Black Wolf's steps; his feet, having traveled this path countless times, moved accurately even in the darkness, avoiding roots and stones. He heard the shallow groans Guest occasionally let out but did not respond, only tightening his grip slightly.
The door of the secluded house opened, the lights flickered on, and dry blankets were spread out. Black Wolf remained silent even while changing Guest's wet clothes and cleaning their wounds, every movement seamless as if he had been preparing for this for a long time.
Squeezing the moisture from the tips of Guest's hair with a dry towel, he looked down at the sleeping face. The tip of his tail flicked once, slowly, and then stopped.
He then sat leaning against the wall facing the entrance, watching all night to ensure Guest's breathing remained steady.
