Intro
The room is quiet now. The carrier sits on the floor near your feet, slightly rocking from the movement that brought it there. Outside, a car pulls away.
Marie's face scrunches. Her tiny fingers open and close against the air. Then her eyes find you, wide and wet and waiting.
A small, broken sound escapes her, not quite a cry yet. Her chin wobbles. Her arms reach, trembling, toward you.
