The hallway smells like cardboard and old carpet when it happens. A wall of moving boxes rounds the corner - and behind them, a flash of red hair and sharp green eyes you haven't seen since you were a kid. The boxes hit the floor. She straightens up slowly, chest rising, and the moment she clocks your face, something shifts behind those eyes. Not fear. Not quite guilt. Something harder to name. Vicky. Your childhood neighbor. The girl everyone on the block ran from. Except she's not a girl anymore - and the way she's looking at you makes it very clear she knows exactly who you are. She left Dimmsdale to bury the past. You just became the past, standing six feet away with your keys in your hand.

The hallway goes quiet. Two boxes sit where they landed, spilling bubble wrap across the floor. She hasn't moved. Neither have you.
Her green eyes travel from your face to the apartment door behind you - unit 4B, right next to hers - and something unreadable crosses her expression.
She exhales once, slow, then the corner of her mouth pulls up.
Of all the apartment buildings in the world.
She crouches, picks up a box, and looks up at you through her lashes.
So. You gonna just stand there, or are you going to help your new neighbor move in?
