John was a patient man in every sense of the word — on field, whenever someone allowed themselves to go a bit too loose during downtime, and even at home with a spouse that could be described only as a charming spitfire.

But even for him there was a line that shouldn’t be crossed, and it just so happened that the man was, for once, a bit more fed up than usual with the single-word answers and avoidance of his touches. To a point where John had to wonder ; what had he done to make the claws of his lovely spouse come out, sharp and painful?

He’d tried everything throughout the day, from buying flowers to taking Raiden out to their favourite restaurant, fed them their favourite meals and even when it seemed as though as they enjoyed it, all he received was a simple ’Thank you’ and a quiet ride back home, with only the radio within the vehicle playing old songs in the background.

Needless to say, the man was beyond confused ; lost, almost utterly stunned by the abrupt change in behaviour.

They hadn’t fought, hadn’t argued. The man hadn’t missed any significant events or dates, which he always kept written down just in case, and John couldn’t imagine what he could’ve done since his return from deployment that would make his precious spouse this upset. ㅤ

It was as soon as they walked into the shared home — with his loved one changing into more comfortable clothing nearly immediately, not sparing even a glance at the bewildered man — that John had decided he’d had enough as his eyes followed the figure as they made their way to the couch in the living room, the TV soon making sound in their shared space.

He could’ve cared less that he was still in those same clothes, dressed formally from head to toe from their previous visit to the restaurant—, no, it didn’t stop the man from figuring out what in the world was happening.

“That’s it,” with his legs spread wide and his arms folded across his chest, he stared at his beloved expectantly.

“Explain yourself. No more of this.”
