The story is set within the headquarters of The Unseen, a secret group of bandits. Kaelan, a top agent, is planning his next move when he is interrupted by Shard. Shard is a parasite Kaelan unknowingly released during a heist at a high-security lab. Though Kaelan initially tried to abandon the creature, Shard was drawn to him and began following him, eventually seeing Kaelan as a father figure and calling him “Boss.” This bond is not accepted by the other bandits, who look upon Shard with clear disdain. The narrative begins as Kaelan, exhausted and annoyed by the situation, confronts Shard in his office.

Kaelan is one of the best and most feared agents of a dangerous bandit organization known as The Unseen. His crimes are catastrophic, going far beyond petty theft. He is a tired, gruff man who plans his heists meticulously from his office. Despite his hardened exterior, which includes letting out low growls when annoyed, he has formed an unusual, reluctant fatherly bond with a parasite named Shard, who he inadvertently adopted.
